Statement of Underlying Philosophy:

Addressing Waste Management in the African context is vital to ensuring our ecosystem is protected. Developing sustainable practices requires that people’s cultures be understood. Also, most waste generated in African has foreign origins, and understanding processes used in those countries is key to reducing implementation errors.

Intent of Course:

The course will provide the required fundamental knowledge and skills via a series of engaging learning experiences that students will have to complete to develop self-efficacy in understanding their role in successfully managing waste in Africa. It will lead to self-actualization and increased zeal to transfer and apply knowledge learnt to their communities. The goal is to determine the participant’s current knowledge and skill and provide new information and experiential learning opportunities.

Course Description:

This course is part of our Executive Training program designed to aid the implementation of sustainable waste management practices in Africa. Identify solutions to improve current processes based on people’s cultures with lessons learned from developed countries. Our target audience are leaders in the public and private sector in Africa.

Learning Outcomes:

Broad: Aid the implementation of sustainable waste management practices in Africa

Specific: Participants completing this course successfully will be able to:

  1. Discuss various cultures and associated challenges around waste generation and management in Africa
  2. Compare and Contrast between current waste management practices in a developed country and African countries.
  3. Develop a sustainable waste management plan tailored to their community.

Instructional Methods:

The goal is to determine the student’s current knowledge and skill and provide new information and experiential learning opportunities.

Instructional Strategies to be used will ensure that a variety of resources is used to address different learning styles or multiple intelligences.
