Safe Drinking Water for Nigerian Communities

Connecting Nigerian Communities to Safe Drinking Water

LifeStraw Nigeria – EnvironFocus

According to UNICEF Nigeria, Nigeria has made substantial progress in developing policies and strategies for water supply and sanitation service delivery, but faces major challenges in translating these into action.

About 70 million people, out of a population of 171 million, lacked access to safe drinking water. Every year, an estimated 124,000 children under the age of 5 die because of diarrhea, mainly due to unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene. Lack of adequate water and sanitation are also major causes of other diseases, including respiratory infection and under-nutrition.

EnvironFocus Limited, a registered Nigerian Company has signed an agreement with Vestergaard to become the Sole Nigerian Distributor of LifeStraw® . LifeStraw is committed to redefining the safe drinking water space through technology innovation, product quality, design. LifeStraw Products can only be sold to the following customers: Government, States, NGOs/ PVOs, Community groups and Local Corporates (B2B)

How it Works

  1. The feed water bucket (2 liter capacity) is filled with water
  2. The 80-micron textile pre-filter (inside the feed water bucket) removes coarser particles and is easy to clean
  3. Water passes through the blue PVC hose and gravity exerts pressure on the filter cartridge to reach a high flow rate
  4. Ultra filtration occurs in the hollow fiber membrane cartridge – a pore size 0.02 microns retains bacteria, viruses, parasites and fine dirt particles
  5. The blue tap is turned to release purified water
  6. Backwash the membrane by squeezing the red bulb 3 times with both taps closed, then release the dirty water from the red tap
