Peter Klaassen, P.Eng. is VP Waste for Ontario with Tetra Tech and has more than 24 years of experience working in the waste sector.  Peter is a seasoned environmental professional with experience working on large scale waste management projects and has held senior positions in both operations and consulting companies.  Peter has undertaken projects in Canada and in international settings as well, that involved environmental planning, project development, project assessment (including comprehensive financial analysis), technical review and recommendations, engineering and numerous other disciplines.  He has a Bachelor of Engineering and MBA both attained from McMaster University.

Topic Area: Waste Management in Ontario – The Changing Paradigm

Nicole Risse is the Executive Director for Ontario Sustainable Energy Association (OSEA). She is a specialist on sustainable energy, with a particular focus on the Ontario energy sector. She was instrumental in driving forward the Ontario Green Energy Act, and the development of the 20/20 Roadmap framework that currently drives OSEA’s vision and policy work.

Nicole engages regularly with the OSEA membership, as well as with policy makers and regulators, to advance the sustainable energy sector in the province. With a focus on inter-disciplinary collaboration, she aims to strengthen OSEA’s role as a trusted advisor, advocate, and partner, promoting a sustainable approach to building resilient communities in healthy environments.

Prior to joining OSEA, Nicole was the Director of the Europe-Korea Foundation, the charitable arm of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in South Korea. She has also coordinated campaigns and events across Europe, Asia and North America, with a focus on stakeholder outreach, interactive engagement and grassroots mobilization.

Edutainment - Spoken-word/poetry performances

Juliet ‘Kego Ume – Onyido is an international Speaker – Poet-Storyteller, Advocate, Master-Certified Leadership Trainer & Coach.  She is the author of the upcoming books “UN-Locking Your HeART of Leadership” and ‘Today, I will not bow”. Her portfolio of poems has been featured across different media platforms and performed live in Canada, USA and in several African countries. Two of her poems have been included in a new educational book Africa Unfold by author Anne Hess Thaysen.

In her own words, “I believe in Floetry; the power of written-spoken-sung WORDS to awaken, connect, heal, empower, create, change and transform our inner and outer worlds”.

Her poems illuminate us on the need to go deep within ourselves as we are in our authentic state – One with God; our Ancestors; our Environment; and one another – in love.

Free underground parking at the Living Art Centre

The event is organized as follows: participating Green vendors will be available from 12-6pm, with their ideas, initiatives, products and services on display with information on how they are better for you and the environment. Spoken word/poetry performances and presentations will run from 1 -3 pm. Refreshments available.
